In earlier times, camping was a rare outdoor activity as most people already are sort of camping due to the fact that they already lived in tents. As the evolution of civilizations move ahead, so as the way of constructing homes and living in concrete and stone houses became the trend. Since the majority of the population now reside in concrete jungles, the urge to breath fresh air of the woodlands have made camping a favorite weekend activity.
Every year, the number of individuals going camping increases and a few of the reasons why is to get a vacation and not to spend too much money. Camping activities such as cooking and making shelter has become more quicker and convenient thanks to modern camping equipments. Compared to cooking in open flames in the ground, compact LPG-powered stoves burn cleaner and cook faster while tents have gone from regular wooden rods and canvass to durable and bendable carbon fibre poles and water proof synthetic fabrics.
Preparing to go camping has become easier and modern tents have played a part to this. The use of tents are crucial whether it’s for camping, backpacking or hiking.
The most common form of tents to be had in the market are:
Pyramid Tents
Pyramid tents are the simplest form of camping tents where putting up two poles, covered by one big canvas and fasten it on the ground with four stakes. Campers who desire to rough it up prefer its simplicity and setting it up is quite easy even for amateur campers. However, tents like these are prone to invasion by insects and parasites. Which is why modern pyramid tents nowadays are made with zippered entryways which also have synthetic fabric canvass and carbon fiber poles and rods.
Dome Tents
Dome tents have become a favorite and common form of tent among campers. Their dome shape not only slide rain water more effectively but it’s also designed to provide more space in its entrance and inside for its occupants compared to pyramid tents. Two poles usually come with dome tents. Modified dome tents, however, are built to give durability and resilience against heavy rains and strong winds. Additional rods and poles to its overall assembly makes it sturdier to the elements.
Tunnel Tents
Tunnel tents have an uneven space and are tapered lower at the back. Two rods come with tunnel tents as well but one is much longer than the other one but single-pole varieties also exist. The lighter weight of tunnel tents also give them certain advantages over other types of tents. Due to its compact design, tunnel tents are the ideal type of tents for backpack tents.
For those who have recently bought a new tent, keeping it dry is essential to prevent moisture damage such as mold and mildew which not only make your tents discolored, but will also make them stinky and a potential health hazard. If your tent is wet, it is good to dry it before storing it. You can dry your tent by hanging it in a long clothesline and let the air dry it. You can also let the sun dry it but it’s important to know that ultraviolet rays from the sun can potentially damage the tent fabric. It is recommended not to expose it for prolonged periods under the sun otherwise wear and tear from heat would gradually deteriorate the fabric.
